The Road Leads me to London

2012

mixed media on paper

Series of 60 sixty pieces of collag, , 23x 33 cm, total dimension 350 x 128 cm

In his collages the artist offers records of his daily excursions during his time in London. In this series of approximately sixty pieces unique mixed media works on paper, an individual silhouetted ‘self-portrait’ figure is composed of randomly collected paper clippings from Alhroub’s regular excursions to places he’s visited or passed through. The transferral of normal daily activities from a public to private context later becomes part of a personal memory represented in a visual collage linked to an act. This act is subsequently associated with a time and a place to become a diary, a key to a memory somewhere. This action presents questions about the value of the artwork... who, how and why?
